The past two days have been a little bit of a whirlwind because we have been trying to escape the scorching temps- it was 99 degrees yesterday! We were really having a hard time trying to come up with some more things to do, so yesterday we decided we were going to go on these free walking tours of the city and learn a little more about its history. However, when we arrived at the meeting spot at 10:30, we knew that it was just not going to happen it was just too hot. We then decided it would be a good idea to buy a ticket for one of those hop-on, hop-off double decker tour buses. The tour was 90 minutes long and took us all around the city, while a pre-recorded tour guide told us about the different areas of Sydney. Both Molly and I were so surprised how young the city actually is. For example, their oldest cathedral is only from the late 1800's.
When the tour was over, we decided that it was time to get something to eat. I hadn't really been feeling very well all day, but I just thought it was because of the heat and that I would be fine. However, when I arrived in the food court where we were just going to get some Nando's to go, I literally fainted. Like, fell on the ground and I don't remember it at all, fainted. Thankfully, Molly was awesome and nursed me back to health with some water, sprite, and a sandwich. I guess the heat really got to me. But don't you worry, mom, I am totally fine and have been doing great since.
After that little blip in our day, we again took our tour bus all the way to Bondi Beach, which we had been dying to see after we found out we had been at Bronte beach instead the other day. The tour was, again, really nice and took us straight to the beach's shore. When we arrived, I can't say that we were really blown away. It kind of looked like any other beach we have been too. Thus, Molly and I have decided that it was a blessing in disguise that we accidentally ended up at Bronte beach the other day. That night, we took a little trip the to cinema and saw The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which was way better that I had expected. Molly and I are still cracking up about it.
Today was hot, but nearly as bad as yesterday. Molly and I finally slept in for the first time and didn't get out of bed until 9:30- bliss. It was a good thing too, because today was the day we climbed the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Our tour wasn't until 4:25 so we just walked around and window shopped until it was time to head to our tour. Let me tell you, the climb was the best thing that we did while we have been in Sydney. First, we had to dress in these amazingly beautiful onesies which did wonders for our figures. But, don't you worry, that didn't stop us from having the time of our lives. We had a great tour guide, Guy, who told us a bunch of stories about Sydney while we climbed up the historic bridge. Surprisingly, it was not scary at all due to how wide the top of the bridge is, but mostly because we were attached to a wire that ran along the entire length of the climb. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to bring a camera so we don't have very many pictures, but we did buy a few that they took of us. Overall, if you ever have the chance to do the climb…DO IT!!!
Also here are some pictures of us outside the Opera House today-sorry for the grungy look; we were dressed for the climb obviously.
Sorry for the long post, but we had a lot to catch up on.
It's a little boring, but we compiled some video clips from our bus tour. Stick through it to the end or fast forward to a short clip of us on top of the bridge!!
